DESIREE JEZEBEL DE LUCA, 20, PAPARAZZI- JOURNALIST, HETEROSEXUAL, HARDWORKING Born in Ireland to a branch of the prestigious Holtz family, Desiree had spent much of her life neglected by her parents. Like most children, she was desperate for the attention of at least one adult to be focused on her, therefore she constantly pushed herself to achieve more and more in hopes of receiving praise of some sort. The only response she ever received as a reaction to her successes was to be waved away, or at most, her parents would raise her allowance and spoil her. They always focused on each other and the love they shared, often isolating her and giving the impression that her birth was a horrible mistake. She was mostly looked after and taken care of by nannies and babysitters, but they treated her as more of a paycheck rather than a living human being. She turned to carelessly spending money and purchasing material possessions that she honestly didn’t need in order to comfort herself and fill the void in her heart where love and appreciation for her parents should have been. By the time she was nine years old, she only knew about superficial things in life. According to her, everything could be purchased because thus far, that was what her life was truly like. Her spoilt, luxurious lifestyle soon came to a halt upon the deaths of Arnold and Sandra. On their way to a formal meeting with business partners, a car accident occurred in which a drunken driver turned into the wrong lane and crashed into their limo. For a while, Desiree found it hard to process exactly how big of a deal the death of her parents truly was because they had never left much of an imprint within her heart. The lack of love and attention they had shown her resulted in her belief that her parents were simply two figures responsible for her entrance into the world, but that was the only purpose. The sentimentality behind the words mother and father were lost to her. Oddly enough, she remains cold to the fact that when one’s parent or parents die, one is expected to mourn. Quite honestly, she was more upset over the fact that she was no longer able to spend money as she pleased because proper legal documents had to be completed to determine whether or not she would receive her inheritance as a direct result of her parents’ deaths. This, however, was realized when she was sent to an orphanage while the proper paperwork was being completed. Once there, the first thing she noticed was that rather than being showered with what she desired, she was often shunned and even snubbed for her holier-than-thou type of behavior. When she resorted to temper tantrums in an attempt to make people follow her whims, she would be punished. It was soon made evident that she stood out from most of the other orphans because she was used to a privileged lifestyle whereas they knew of the hardships of life and were quite embittered by their experiences. In order to give her an attitude adjustment, the kids would often pick on her and bully her while the employees of the orphanage turns a blind eye to what occurred because they were reluctant to get involved with a girl as bratty and troublesome as herself. The bullying began as verbal but soon became physical as she was pushed around and smacked. Two years later, she was eleven years old and the bullying made her rather timid and fearful. Despite the fact that her ego had been knocked down, the bullying became more of a familiar ritual rather than attempts to teach her a lesson about the hard side of life. She was rescued from further ill treatment when Nicholas and Lorena entered the entrance of the orphanage, desiring to create a small family of their own upon the discovery that Lorena was barren. Jinx was immediately chosen because they sensed that something was off due to the bruises coloring her thin arms. They had soon taken her in for an open adoption, allowing her family to maintain contact with her, however she was quite disagreeable and knew little of how to act like a good child. Upon first entering her new home, she was rather temperamental and snappy, often rejecting attempts at acts of kindness. It took some time, but eventually Nicholas and Lorena were able to get her to soften up by showing her the love and affection that she had been deprived of in previous years. She slowly shifted into being less hostile, taking in their lessons on being kind-hearted and sweet. She grew more trusting of her adoptive parents and eventually, she completely lost all hints of aggression, leading to the creation of a rather close-knit family. Her decision to take up the surname of her adoptive parents further pulled the family together. The family had never really lacked money, but Lorena did occasionally try her hand at the lottery and eventually, she was graced with good luck. By the time Jinx was thirteen, she was once again able to enjoy being a spoiled child because Lorena had won the lottery. In terms of her ties to the Lionford family, a decision had been reached that the fortune left behind by her biological parents was to be taken by a separate branch of the family, therefore leaving Jinx with nothing, though she doesn’t mind too mind. A decision was soon reached for the entire family to move to New York in order to enjoy a change of setting. When Desiree hit age fourteen, she found herself in an entirely new continent, enrolled to be a freshman at a high school. Being there roused up old memories of her mistreatment in the orphanage and that was when she created her mask. Such behaviour integrated her with the groups of girls considered popular, and the role offered her a sort of protection. During senior year, she was offered an internship by a fellow acquaintance of her parents to become a journalist under an anonymous identity, and within the year, she quickly rose the ranks due to her ability to dig up quite a bit of dirt, as well as a fairly skillful writing ability. At this time, she’s recently graduated from high school and maintains a stable job as a journalist, no longer writing anonymously. Her fear of being second carried over to her job, and she maintains her mean girl act because she fears that she’ll be pushed around and stepped on if she acts less than professional. For two years, she took a bit of a break from journalism and wrote significantly less in order to focus specifically on school after having been accepted via scholarship to a somewhat prestigious university with the intent to major in journalism, but recently, she’s returned to journalism. Because she is preoccupied with her job, she occasionally has trouble balancing it with her responsibilities as a university student, but she’s made an attempt to balance the two priorities in her life by using breaks from school such as summer break and vacation to focus on being right where all the drama is occurring with bands, but when she has school, she focuses on her studies and has had it arranged so that her journalism serves as credit within her university, occasionally giving an early warning to her professors when she needs to leave for a few days due to a job-related issue in order to receive the assignments she needs to complete so she travels around quite a bit, but she tries her best to keep journalism from interfering with her studies.
