KATY VIOLET CHRISTENSEN, NINETEEN, EVER SINCE WE MET- PHOTOGRAPHER, STRAIGHT, ARTISTIC Meet Katy Christensen. She might be the last person you expect to be touring with a band, what with that liking of cute dresses and bunny rabbits she has and her sweet, innocent smile. But she is here, and she will talk down anyone who says she doesn't belong, because she's been into photography since she was about thirteen, and loved it just as long. As a person, she can be considered a bit of a hopeless romantic, almost too dreamy to survive, and she considered photography very much a type of artwork. She can be found taking photos and loving music just as much as she can be found sighing about a Prince Charming and wondering where her future will take her. Similarly, she is a firm believer in destiny and fate, and believes that she is in certain places for a reason. When she was down because her parents had scorned the idea of photography as a form of study at university, and saw that a band needed a photographer, she took it as a sign that she should continue to do it anyway (much to their dismay). Despite going against her parents' wishes, she is not the rebellious sort at all. She is quite the kind person, sometimes even naive. Some people consider her quiet, or too polite. She's quite passive aggressive and is rarely seen angry; close friends tend to notice it more than a stranger. Katy Christensen was born, two weeks early, in Missisuaga, Canada. At the time, her parents, Alex and Michelle, were overjoyed to have a girl. They had one boy, two years old at the time, named Aaron, and were content to play happy families in their home. Aaron wasn't much of the protective sort; he cared, of course, that he had a younger sister, but what followed for the pair was a constant rivalry for their parents' attention, who never seemed to know who they should be spoiling. Sometimes, Aaron would get everything he wanted, and other times, Katy would be the one to recieve the extravagant birthday party. Nothing particularly changed until, when Katy was five, the family received news that Alex's father - Katy and Aaron's grandfather - had passed away, and that their grandmother was inconsolable and unable to run the house on her own. Because of this, the family moved to Southern California, America, moved in with Katy's grandmother, and the children attempted to adapt to a new lifestyle. Katy, as a rule, didn't do too badly in school. She wasn't the smartest kind in the class, but she certainly didnt flunk anything either. Of course, there was her rivalry with Aaron, but even that seemed to tone down by the time she reached about the age of ten, and they simply dropped all fights, and became closer. He had just discovered art for the first time, and he would hiding in the art rooms while she laughed over his shoulder and asked what on earth he was drawing ("It's a donkey, right?" - "Katy, no. It's a horse, can't you see it?" - "Looks like a donkey to me."). She was quite disappointed when he left for high school, but she soon forgot about that when she ended up going there herself. At the age of thirteen, Katy came into her own in one of her media classes. She picked up a digital camera for the first time, and it was great. Teachers told her she had a natural knack for photography, and she enjoyed using a camera to capture once-in-a-lifetime moments. She filled her first photo album two weeks later, and her fourteenth birthday present was a camera of her own. Her parents, grandmother and brother supported this hobby, until her grades started to drop, and then her parents thought she spent too long on something that would get her nowhere. At first, she acquiested and spent less time with a camera, and more time on her studies. That is, until, she was deciding on university options. Her parents, who had been quite liberal about uni until this point, had suggested a myriad of academic degrees, but she was quite set on a photography course. But no, they said, she would have to do something that was actually worth the money they'd be spending on university, and she found herself pretending to agree, and then looking out for a sign on what she should do. It came when she was trawling her school noticeboards - a local band asking for a photographer. And hey, she thought, I'm a photographer. She hadn't heard of Ever Since We Met before, but listened to some of their stuff so she wouldn't seem like a ditzy airhead who took hipster photos and then showed them her photo albums - not all of them, just one or two as proof that she was proficient with a camera. And, to her surprise, they took her on, and she has toured with them, taking their pictures and selling them to magazines for a year now. Her brother is very supportive of her choice, and hopes that she'll continue to do it for a long time. Her parents, however, are less than supportive, and wish she'd get her act together and get home already ("But I am," she'll point out innocently. "I'm home every time the band come back to this area.") JADE, EIGHTEEN, SKYPE, YIM, MSN - BUT YOU GOTTA PM ME FOR THEM (: |
