NICHOLAS ROBERT HARLOW, TWENTY-TWO, DJ GROSS- MANAGER, BISEXUAL, CHARMING The best way of describing Nick, for most people, is that he came out of nowhere. One minute there was nothing - the next, a charming, young gentleman who got what he wanted with a smirk and a few words. Some people use the incongruous "mysterious" when describing him, others "secretive", but Nick would point out he is neither - but he won't elaborate on what he means. Those that have the fortune to have a full conversation with him will find him polite and charming, kind and caring, someone who appears to be a true businessman and nothing more. Those who annoy him say he can be rude and abrasive, sarcastic at least, and doesn't even deign them with a response. Nick says he is everything and nothing at the same time. For Nick, being who he is, it's more than just a lifestyle choice, it's a practised art that he is still learning. His history is never mentioned, and he gently skates over any personal topics with the ease of someone who has done it a thousand times before. Nick's life begins in the East End of London. A mere two months before his birth, his father had walked out on his mother, and Nick grew up with no idea who this mystery man was. His mother never chose to tell him, and he stuck to the lie he had been given as a child - his father had died. He was given his mother's maiden name for a last name, and he attended a local comprehensive school. For the most part, his life followed that of any child from an impoverished area. He stuck with kids he knew from the apartment blocks he lived in, he learnt to fight, and he was the bane of his mother's existence, who had hoped that her child might have far better manners than what he did have. Her aim, therefore, was to send him to a private school. Nick wasn't smart enough for a scholarship, having just been diagnosed with dyslexia his mother thought that it would take some time for him to actually be up to standard. Instead, she took on extra jobs, worked hard, and paid Nick's tuition fees throughout high school. At high school, Nick saw how the other half lived. And he liked it. However, he was also aware that he would not be accepted, maybe bullied, if he willingly told them his history, so he made stuff up, like any child. He turned his working-in-a-diner mother into the owner of a restaurant, exaggerated his father's tragic death (and felt terrible for it, knowing, by now, what had really happened) and put on the best accent he could. People started to like him, he was practically Mr. Popular throughout his years there. More than that, Nick was a playboy in his later school years, and he was proud to admit that. That is, until, he met one miss Scarlett McKellan, who took one look at him, rolled her eyes and walked away. His school, St. Valentines, could only watch in awe as the one who had all the girls (and some guys) all over him chased after one girl who wanted nothing to do with him. Imagine their surprise when, in Nick's final year, two weeks before they were about to leave school for good, she gave him one chance. Nick himself was over the moon - he had spent two years asking for a date. And after high school had finished? Nick left with four A-levels, and a girl on his arm. And he disappeared off the radar for a while. In truth, Nick had moved back to London, but he and Scarlett had moved in together. It's safe to say that her parents didn't approve of what they called a street rat, but there was something that suggested he could be more than that. He managed to intern at a local record company, working his way up the ranks. By the age of twenty, the pair had married, and by the time they were twenty-one, their first child, Grace Elise, had been born. Scarlett's job, however, had given her a promotion that was to move her to America. While Nick was happy for her, he told her plainly that she wasn't going alone, and that he and their daughter would be travelling with. Nick had a talk with his boss that started on local sales, and moved carefully over to possible jobs in America, and how he couldn't leave his wife alone in such a big country. To his glee, a new job had opened up where a previous manager had stepped down, and a band really needed their manager right now. Nick accepted it without thinking, and the family moved to America, not only to support Scarlett in her new job. Nick found that the band he would now be managing, the first band he would manage, actually, was none other than DJ Gross, and with some nice words to the makers of the tour, he has managed to get them on the Warped Tour, with very little trouble indeed.
