With a sky as crisp and blue as today’s was, one could only expect something ironic to occur like perhaps locking oneself up in a room to brood over the past and every little thing that went wrong during the time leading to the present. However, reminiscing itself felt nostalgic to the dark-haired teen as she sat down on the sidewalks, taking snapshots of whoever sauntered past her line of vision. For a second, she wished she was someone else because she certainly made a sight for the photographers with the way she wore a multi-layered black skirt that rustled noisily each time she shifted her outstretched legs and a corset that hugged her figure. She occasionally twirled newly dyed locks of sapphire blue around her fingers with a faraway look in her eyes that misleadingly suggested that she was deep in thought. Was it obvious that she would rather happily take a picture of herself?
As a breeze brushed over her skin, she momentarily wished that she had taken a jacket along to protect her against the chill that tingled along her nerves. Nevertheless, she supposed her current attire was sufficient enough to battle a tiny gust of wind. It was only a little shivering. She could deal with it.
Even though most people would have killed to be impervious against the barrage of unrelenting memories, Ariana wished she could get a good grasp on the emotion. Her fingers would reach out and just barely skim the surface of reminiscence, but she was never able to get a good enough grasp in order to put herself into that state of mind. So now she was simply sitting on the sidewalk, legs stretched out despite being glared at for producing an obstacle for some of the more rushed fans hell-bent on getting the autographs of their idols. Each time she heard profanities thrown her way, she’d simply offer an infuriating little smirk before taking a picture of the exuberantly angry expressions she saw, laughing lightly when she looked back on her camera to view the sight she had captured.
Not that it was possible, but she was hoping to get the perfect picture in order to trigger some sort of reaction when she looked. The last time she had been away from home, she would pine away rather miserably and wish she were back in her family. It was true that she has resolved to never look back on her life as a socialite, but she expected at least some sort of longing for her home. She was instead met by the familiar sensation of feeling that longing. It wasn’t something she could explain clearly in words, but the main idea was simply that she didn’t miss her family, and she didn’t miss her home. Even more unexplainable was why she wanted to feel miserable. She didn’t quite have an answer to that inquiry, but she did find that of the thirty-two pictures she had taken since she sat down fifteen minutes ago, none of them served to trigger any emotional response except for amusement.
With a small pout on her lips, she gingerly placed her camera on her lap before placing her arms at her sides, fingers tapping against the rough surface of cement. She leaned back slightly and sighed dramatically—she told herself she was entitled to over-the-top, theatrical actions because damn it, she would be an actress someday when the whole photography business grew old, and nothing would misdirect her from her goals.
No longer quite so fascinated by the idea of self-induced misery, she looked around with her strikingly blue eyes and wished for some company. Though typically independent, it was only human to want a companion or two when alone. She wouldn’t die of isolation, obviously, but she was dissatisfied with the boredom and sought for amusement in the form of humans. There were so many people milling about, but she wasn’t interested in squealing girlishly like some sort of rabid fan over a band she didn’t genuinely care about.
From the corner of her eyes, she saw a couple holding hands and passing by. Picking up her camera, she took a quick picture and smiled, a bit touched by the adoration in their eyes. She told herself that it was teenage love. She then proceeded to make bets with herself in regards to the question of how long would they last before their relationship fell apart. Finally, she settled for six days.
