She was having a less than stellar day. In fact, it could be said that she was having a bad day; a very bad day. Not only had Rhilyn woken up on the wrong side of the bed, as the saying goes, but she had, in point of fact, not actually slept - not really. The previous night had been spent partying until the early hours of the morning with various band members on the tour, whilst most of the morning had been spent in a drunken stupor. Eventually she had managed to, somehow, miraculously, find her way back to the bus and collapsed onto her bunk into a glorious, dreamless sleep...which lasted all of an hour.
The young woman had then been woken by a most unwanted and unappreciated phone call from her mother, insisting that she immediately read the latest copy of a certain trashy mag and demanding an explanation for the front cover photo of an obviously intoxicated and scantily clad Rhilyn giving a certain male from another band (whose name she couldn't quite remember) what appeared to be a lap dance. She had shrugged and grumbled something to her mother along the lines of the guy being hot and clearly they both had fun, and wasn't the photo enough of an explanation?
It was this phone call which Rhi was still on while she entered the local coffeehouse, carrying the mag under her arm, and sat at a table in the back corner. She chose the seat furthest possible from prying eyes. Rhilyn left her dark shades on and slapped the mag down on the table, in no way attempting to hide her hangover, nor her frustration. "What do you want me to say, mum? It's not like there weren't scandalous articles written about me before... Yes, mum, I know... No... mum, stop. You've seen worse. The only difference is that now I'm eighteen, not sixteen."
The dark haired teen paused to listen half-heartedly to the voice on the other side of the phone while she scrutinized the coffee list. She waved the waitress away momentarily, signaling that she needed more time to decide on the best hangover cure and something to shove in her growling stomach which would actually stay down. A frustrated sigh escaped her lips, "Mum, she's two. She shouldn't be seeing any of the articles anyway. No, mum. Yes, I know... Ugh. Mum. If writing articles like that about me keeps their prying eyes away from her, then yes, I am more than okay with it." She paused, covered the receiver with her hand, and quickly ordered herself a coffee and a breakfast snack from the waitress who had returned, before returning to the phone conversation.
"Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. I don't want her dragged into this. Yes. Mum, just... just put her on the line." She pulled her sunglasses off her head and threw them down on the table by the mag and began running her fingers through her wild, tangled hair. She hadn't bothered to brush it, nor did she care if she looked a hot mess. A small smile curved her lips, "Hi Kaelyn. Are you having fun with gamma and grandpa? Swimming? You are? Wow. That's lovely, baby. Mmhmm. Ok. Love you, too.... Yeah, hi mum. Yes, of course. Mum, I gotta go. Yeah. Bye." She ended the call with a sigh and slid her phone on the table, to join the mag and the sunglasses, as she rested her forehead on the cool table top, closing her eyes, and waiting, ever so patiently, for her coffee and whatever else the day might bring.
