DEREK TYLER SULLIVAN, TWENTY-TWO, MATCHWORK- VOCALIST/GUITARIST, STRAIGHT, PRECISE Derek Tyler Sullivan was born in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in a tough lifestyle. His mother wasn't around much when he was a kid, and to put it bluntly, she was a cocaine addict. His father wasn't very stable, either. Dylan Sullivan, Derek's father, was an alcoholic and was in between jobs. Not many people want a struggling alcoholic working for their company. So, Derek grew up mostly alone while his father and mother tried to recover from the previous night, where they were out partying. They didn't care about Derek once he started to grow up without their help. He soon became dependent on himself and only himself. He learned that he didn't need anyone to help him out, therefor dropped out of school in his Junior year. His parents, of course, didn't notice the slightest bit. When he had worked multiple jobs just to create a stable income for himself, Derek finally earned enough money to get himself a place in South California. He now resides in a house near Huntington Beach, where he practices with his band, Matchworks. Derek's life wasn't always quite so hectic. His parents weren't always as messed up as they are now, they used to be great role models. Derek grew up extremely close to his dad until he resorted to alcohol to deal with his mothers cocaine addiction. Dylan, his dad, was originally the one to teach Derek how to play the guitar. It was an extreme bonding experience for them, and Derek depended on Dylan more than anything. Derek was a complete daddy's boy and was devastated when his father turned into a complete mess. The memories of a young Derek witnessing his father come home early in the morning, drunk out of his mind and then the hangover following was traumatizing. Derek is always afraid that one day he'll follow in his fathers footsteps. Some might say it's his biggest fear, but not many people know of his past. Derek would rather live in the present, instead of dwelling on the past.
